Girl
Scout Troop #314 of Lincoln donated
$250 to assist UNL students who were going to do Katrina relief this past
May. The UNL students used the
donation to assist a grandmother, Miss Sally, and her six grandchildren that
she is raising. The youngest grandchild was a baby when the storm hit and was
lost and displaced during the aftermath.
She is now back with grandma and 18 months old. Two of the grandchildren, Chelsea and Amy,
are Girl Scouts and they were so pleased to learn that some of the help was
coming from Girl Scouts. Miss Sally’s
house was destroyed by the storm surge.
She used the insurance money to buy a house on higher ground further
inland. She had moved her family in
when there was a grease fire accident that burned the house severely. The UNL students painted the inside of the
house and organized the family living areas.
The money donated by the Troop #314 was used to purchase food and
clothing for the children.
