The Girl Scout Cookie Sale is one of two annual Council-sponsored program opportunities for Brownie through Senior Girl Scout troops/groups and individually registered girls.  The other is the Nut Sale that is conducted in the fall.  ABC Interbake, licensed by GSUSA, is the Council’s cookie supplier.

The cookie sale starts Friday, January 11, 2008. Order taking for the Cookie Sale will be January 11 - 28, and delivery will be the end of February 23- March 10.  The seven returning varieties are: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-A-Lot and Lemonades.  Our new cookie is: Cinnaspins.

Girls will earn awards beginning with a participation patch for selling 1-49 boxes, theme patch for selling 50-99 boxes and additional awards for every 50 boxes of cookies, up to 500.

Girl Scouts have been selling cookies since Juliette Gordon Low helped bake them for her Girl Scouts in the 1920s.  Cookies have always been a part of the funding for Girl Scouting-with proceeds paying traditionally up to 80 percent of a Council’s operating budget.  Each box of cookies will sell for $3.50.  The proceeds of the Cookie Sale benefit Girl Scouts in Homestead Council after the bakery is paid 89 cents per box. Troops will earn $.50 per box of cookies sold.

Troops decide how to spend their proceeds-for camps, travels, educational opportunities and community service projects.  The Cookie Sale is also an exciting program opportunity in which girls learn to set personal and team goals, develop financial and communication skills, and take responsibility and pride in delivery of a quality product.

During the 2007 Girl Scout Cookie Sale, troops earned $175,440 and girls earned awards worth an additional $32,166.  Many girls also earned their Girl Scout Cookie Pin as well as their age-level try-it or badge.

Many troops also earned the Smart Cookie Award and/or the Cookie Performance Award. Twenty-eight Girl Scouts and parents were recognized at the 500 Box Recognition Event!

Here's a fun Girl Scout song written by a troop several years ago.

Have Fun!!!     Tune:  "If You're Happy and You Know It"

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, take a smile,

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, take a smile,

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies,

Remember to take a smile

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, take a smile.

(Action:  Fingers drawing up mouth corners into a smile.)

Verse 2:

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, take a friend....

(Action:  Hold hands and swing back and forth)

Verse 3:

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, dress up right....

(Action:  Primp clothing and hair.)

Verse 4:

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, be polite....

(Action:  Shake hands.)

Verse 5:

If you're selling Girl Scout cookies, not at night...

(Action:  Shake head no and finger shakes in reprimand.)
